Škoda Auto introduced the Rapid sedan in the Indian market back in 2011, when it bore resemblance with the Fabia hatchback from its second generation.

However, the company continued to sell the same model without an update for over half a decade until the facelift came about in 2017. This facelift saw it become more upmarket and close to the company’s styling cues. Variants

The Škoda Rapid is offered in three basic forms that include  Active, Ambition and Style, with a price tag reading around Rs 8 lakh to Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom India). The ‘Edition’ model of the Skoda Rapid price ranges from Rs 11 lakh to Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom India).

The Škoda Rapid 1.5 TDI Automatic Style variant is the costliest diesel automatic iteration of this sedan, bearing a price tag of around Rs 13 lakh.

Rapid 1.6 MPI Ambition priced around Rs 9 lakh is the best-seller brand model that comes with 1598 cc Petrol engine mated to a manual transmission.

Engine details

Škoda  Rapid is available in both petrol as well as diesel version. The Škoda sedan diesel version derives its power from a 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine, generating a maximum of 110PS and deriving a peak torque reading 250Nm. The petrol version is driven by a 1.6-litre MPI petrol powertrain, offering a top speed of 105PS and churning a maximum torque of 153Nm. Both the motor can be coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission or a dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The Rapid Edition 2018 is based on the Škoda Style variant and is offered with both manual and automatic versions of the petrol and diesel unit.

Exterior

The Rapid Edition rides on 16-inch machined wheels. The exterior styling includes projector smoked headlamps and taillights, LED DRLs, front fog lamps etc. The outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs) are among its prime exterior specs. The front fascia bears black-coloured glossy grille and contrasting black roof.

Key interior highlights

On the inside, we have a 6.5-inch touchscreen info system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and MirrorLink. Plus, premium upholstery, height adjustable driver seat, flat-bottom steering, automatic climate control system, auto dimming IRVM are also available.
